Title: Renewable energy technologies, its application, and Challenges

Among the renewable technologies, the wind is a prominent source of energy and synchronizing its share in global energy production market remarkably. Considering this context, in the last decades, there has been a fast growth and spread of renewable energy plants. Among them, wind generators are the most widespread type of intermittent renewable energy harvesters with their 591 GW of cumulative installed power at the end of 2018. Wind capacity, i.e. total installed power, is keeping a positive trend with an increase of 51.5 GW in 2018. In the future, such growth could decrease due to saturation of in-land windy areas that are suitable for installations.

Development in the usage of wind energy on a wide scale raises demand for wind energy conversion machines (WECMs), with the double-fed induction generator (DFIG) among these converters being the preferred option. However, during service, DFIG is very sensitive to fluctuations in wind speed and grid faults. To address these unwanted features: Today we will light upon the hierarchical fault tolerant control (FTC) to boost DFIG efficiency. The hierarchical fault tolerant control (FTC) approach consists of pitch angle control (PAC) and maximum power point tracking (MPPT). This hierarchical approach demonstrates the robust response under various (low, rated, and high) wind speed ranges and reduces the undesirable DC voltage overshoots during short-circuit disorder. The simulation results are summarizes, which depicts the order of controlling scheme and operation for a sustainable energy generation system. The proposed control scheme achieved the healthy and the robust dynamic response without deteriorating the grid power quality or stressing the converters, and approved the effectiveness to suppress the DC voltage overshoots and tolerate the lower down short-circuit disorder to its rated range.
